"I need help building my website. Who should I hire?"

How to hire someone to build a website that you know you'll love

"Been trying platforms like Wix and Squarespace myself but honestly getting frustrated with limitations"

"I know it's time to hire a professional but there are so many options that it's overwhelming! And what I want isn't even super fancy"

The best way to find a web development agency that you will build you exactly what you want is to hire one that has already built a website you love.

Here's how to do it in four easy steps:

Step 1: Spend some time online looking for websites that are close in look and function to what you want.

For example, here is Katie Parla's website that showcases her love for Rome and the food tours that she offers.

Step 2: Right-click on the page and select "View Page Source" to dig into who built this. You don't have to be technical at all to do this.

Step 3: Search for the word "theme" to find out what theme was used to built this. Here is what I get when I do that for Katie's website:

This might look like nonsense but stay with me here! There are two main things I got from this:

  • The theme is "The Wonder Jam Child"
  • It was built using Wordpress (you can see that when you see "wp" referenced in the code. Most websites are built on Wordpress ("wp"), Squarespace ("squarespace") or Webflow ("wf").

Step 4: Find out who built the Wordpress theme! I typed "wonder jam child theme" into Google and the first search result was this website.

And there you have it! The easiest way to make sure you get exactly what you want is by contracting work to someone who had done something similar before.
